13A – Reading Reflection No. 1
After
reading To Be Loved, Berry Gordy, the
thing that surprised me the most was that the book did not talk about love in
the sense that I expected. It talked about ambitions mostly, which was also the
thing I admire most in Berry Gordy. In his book Berry Gordy describe
a time of suffering when he was constantly being accused of working with the
mafia and taking most of the money of musicians. When got accused, Berry Gordy
just kept to his own and try to not give too much attention to people who envied
his success.
The entrepreneur did what he loves
and surrounded himself with people he loved and loved him back. He was able to
be enthusiastic about every part of his business which made him a great success.
I did not understand fully the
reason for him to have such a long search for a career.
I
would ask him what he thinks led him to be such a great success, and what does
he think of the music today.
I
think Berry Gordy defines hard work as
never giving up just as he never did throughout his career.
Hello Uri, your reflection of Barry Gordy’s autobiography was very interesting. Although it didn’t talk about the love that you expected, I hope that the ambitions that Gordy held can pass on to you and make a difference in your life. If I were to ask him a question, I would probably ask what it was like living in an America that is mostly segregated.
