24A – Venture Concept No. 1
Opportunity
· What are the forces or
changes in the environment creating this opportunity?
· How is this market
defined geographically and demographically?
· How are customers
currently satisfying this need? And how
loyal are they to whatever they use now?
· How big is this
opportunity?
· How long will the
“window of opportunity” be open?
My name is Uri Goldenberg and I am a computer
science student in the University of Florida. I have moved to Florida from Israel
9 months ago and the first thing that I have noticed about this state is its intense
heat. During my first day in Florida there was a record high temperature of 90
degrees Fahrenheit. High heat has negative affect on the body far beyond mere perspiration.
When temperature rises our body loses its effectiveness and begin to act sluggish
and fatigued. The opportunity I have decided to address involves the suffering
of people entering their car after it being parked in the sun for a long time. Because
of the intense heat that is stored in cars parked in the hot sun, people who
enter their cars have to endure high temperatures during the first part of their
drive. The heat coupled with driving activity is very dangerous; people who
drive in the while suffering from heat tend to be more angry and impatient
hence more dangerous. In the world of today the only products that offer a reprieve
from the intense heat stored in cars are products such as aluminum windshield
accordions. Although people can use those type of devices, they are bulky and
difficult to maneuver. Even though most cars worldwide tend to head up during
summer time, most people don’t use aluminum windshield accordions. This information
point to the fact that this market is unexploited and will continue to be until
someone will come up with a simpler product. I propose a novel solution that is
easy to install and doesn’t require constant handling.
Innovation
· What is the solution
· Detail
· How will it make
money?
My solution to this problem is a product
comprised out of solar panel installed on the roof of the can and connected to
a fan will will be placed inside the car. The sollar panel will draw power from
the sun during the day and will activate the fan when the engine of the car is
turned off. By creating a cool environment for the drivers who enter their parked
cars on a hot day, the people who will enter the car will not only be less hot but
only less aggravated and therefore safer drivers. The device will not be sold separately
from the car but will serve as a future that could be added to new cars for a
few more hundred dollars.
Venture Concept
· What are the reasons
to think customers would switch to this new product? How hard will it be to get them to switch?
· Who are the competitors? What are their possible weaknesses or
vulnerabilities?
· What role does
packaging, your price points, distribution, customer support, the customer
experience or the business location play (if any) in defining your business
concept?
· How would you organize
a “business” to support the ongoing production of your new product, service, or
process? How many employees? What roles are in the venture?
Todays society revolves about comfort and
luxury, my product offers just that. Car drivers with a steady job spend a lot
of their time in their car. Every year cars aspire to be more luxurious and more
comfortable that the year before. In a world where my only competition is an archaic
windshield accordions made out of aluminum the competition is very slim. People
refuse to use aluminum windshield accordions due to the clumsy design which
makes the product difficult to use. I whole suggest selling the product as an appendix
to the new car to reduce problems during installation. The main business will involve
telemarketing which will introduce the product to all the big car manufacturers
companies.
Hi Uri. Your comment on how today’s society revolves around comfort and luxury is insightful. In many ways this core idea is visible in all of our opportunities. I mean no one in our group is developing a device, etc. that generates necessities, they are all convenience items/services. Your idea to sell the product through car dealers, B2B, instead of or in addition to direct to consumers is great.
ReplyDeleteUri, the sweltering heat that south florida brings makes productivity decrease, I have seen it firsthand. I think it is very important that you brought this up in your venture concept. It is also great that you made the point that comfort is a very important aspect of many peoples lives, making this product as important as ever. You did a great job on your concept!
