Reading Reflection No. 3
I read the book
Mindset: The New Psychology of Success.
In my opinion the
general theme of the book was growth. According to the book success will come
to those who have success as their only option even if mistakes are made, learning
from these mistakes are what paves the path to success.
The connection to the
class is the emphasis both have on personal growth. Both the book and the class
put a lot of weight to the idea of learning from one’s mistakes and coming out
stronger than before.
The activity that I
would suggest for this class based on this book is to let the students write a
list containing attributes and skills that this possess. These set of skills
will be skill that they excel at but want to perfect even more.
My biggest eureka
moment reading this book was realizing that even tho team work is vital for success
sometimes being selfish is sometimes crucial.
Uri, this book seems very interesting and may be something I am interested in reading in the future. I like how the book builds on the foundation of failure, which connects back to the celebrating failure assignment we just completed. I was surprised how selfishness is viewed as a good thing in group work when we are taught that group cohesion is what we should be looking for.
ReplyDeleteHi Uri,
ReplyDeleteApproaching failure as training for success is a good attitude to approach any kind of problem. Struggling helps us come out stronger in the end. I believe that failures teach us more and help us grow more than successes because we think about what to differently. Thank you for the tips.
Hi Uri. Your reflection of Mindset intrigues me to read it myself. I agree with your synopsis that if you view success as the only option you are much more likely to reach it. Visualization. I like your activity idea. However, I think it is equally important to list skills a student would want to acquire to build the skill toolbox in addition to perfecting current skills.
